Fantasy football sit/start advice, Week 6: Broncos vs. Jets

A team coming off a resounding win against a team coming off an embarrassing loss. Well, this should be fun.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos' offense couldn't have a much better week than they did in Week 5. The entire New York Jets' team couldn't have had a much worse one. It could be an ugly time come Sunday if those trends continue.

The main injury on the Broncos' report is that of running back Montee Ball, who has been ruled out for Sunday with a groin injury. One of the running backs with a chance to fill in for Ball, Juwan Thompson, was limited in practice this week with a knee injury, though he's expected to play. For the Jets, the only real fantasy injury of note is wide receiver Eric Decker, dealing with a hamstring injury, and Decker is expected to play.

The two teams play at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, with the Jets hosting. As you might expect from these two teams, much of the fantasy intrigue lies with the visitors:

BRONCOS

Start 'em: Well, Peyton Manning is really good. Analysis over. ... For now at least, Ronnie Hillman takes over the No. 1 running-back role, and in that offense, that's a coveted role. ... Anyone who wondered about Demaryius Thomas' stock sure feels silly after his 34-point game Sunday. ... Emmanuel Sanders hasn't had fewer than eight fantasy points in a game yet. He's plenty valuable in his own right. ... No play has dominated his position like Julius Thomas has tight ends so far this year. ... Brandon McManus benefits from being the kicker on a stellar offense. ... The Broncos' defense hasn't been great so far, but it hasn't been bad, either, and against a putrid offense like New York's it's a must-start unit.

Start 'em?: I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Broncos work to get Wes Welker more involved going forward, but until that happens he's not much more than a flex play.

Sit 'em: It wouldn't surprise me if we hear from C.J. Anderson and maybe Juwan Thompson as the season goes on, but for now, they're nothing beyond stash-and-monitor guys.

Start in every league: Peyton Manning, Ronnie Hillman, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Julius Thomas, Brandon McManus, Defense/special teams

Start if you’re desperate: Wes Welker

Bench: C.J. Anderson, Juwan Thompson

JETS

Start ‘em: ...

Start 'em?: After a good start to the season, Chris Ivory's production fell off a lot in Week 5; he's a high-end flex or low-end RB2 right now. ... An on-the-field Eric Decker against his old team is a strong flex play, especially with the revenge factor.

Sit 'em: No, you aren't using Geno Smith or Michael Vick. No, not even in two-quarterback leagues. Maybe in a three-quarterback league if you're desperate. ... It's been an awful season for Chris Johnson, who can't be used in fantasy right now. ... If Jeremy Kerley couldn't produce with Decker out in Week 5, he's not going to start now. ... The Jets' tight ends -- Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland -- shouldn't be on any rosters right now. ... Nick Folk took a nice fat goose-egg in Week 5; if an offense can't score, the kicker can't do much. ... The Jets' defense against Denver is the stay-away-est stay-away in the world.

Start in every league: ...

Start if you’re desperate: Chris Ivory, Eric Decker

Bench: Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Chris Johnson, Jeremy Kerley, Jace Amaro, Jeff Cumberland, Nick Folk, Defense/special teams
