Music City will host the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.

Commissioner Gary Bettman was at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Friday morning to announce that the Predators have been awarded the game. It's the second major NHL event that the Preds have hosted, the other being the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, during which Marc-Andre Fleury of the Penguins was the No. 1 pick.

“Tag, you’re it,” Bettman said. “I have the pleasure and honor of announcing something that is no big secret. The 2016 NHL All-Star Celebration will be hosted in Nashville at this magnificent arena.”

“Hosting the 2016 NHL All-Star Game is a huge win for Nashville. We have hosted big sporting events like this, and we know it benefits our city in many ways, particularly our downtown and hospitality businesses. I look forward to showcasing the enthusiastic base of hockey supporters in our region and all that Music City has to offer,” said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean in a prepared statement.

The All-Star Game hasn't been played since 2012 in Ottawa, but will resume this 2014-15 season when the event is hosted by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
