Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 8: Packers vs. Saints

New Orleans hasn’t gotten anything going this season, but Green Bay sure has.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers righted the ship early in the season, winning four straight since their 1-2 start. The New Orleans Saints haven't been able to get things going for themselves, sitting at 2-4. The two teams face one another Sunday, one looking to keep it going and the other looking to figure it out.

The Packers come into Sunday's game basically healthy on the fantasy side -- running back James Starks appeared on the injury report with an ankle, but he's likely to play. The Saints have more to worry about. Running backs Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas have both been ruled out for Sunday, while tight end Jimmy Graham is expected to be active, but is still dealing with a shoulder injury.

The Saints host the game at 8:30 p.m. ET. These two teams regularly offer a lot to watch from a fantasy perspective, and this week is no different:

PACKERS

Start 'em: Not many players are hotter right now that Aaron Rodgers. He's put up 24-plus points in back-to-back games, three of four and four of six. Good times. ... Eddie Lacy does have double-digit fantasy points three times in his last four games. He's not as impressive as fantasy owners hoped, but he's still a starter. ... At this point, both Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb could be considered top-five fantasy receivers. They've both been crazy-elite. ... Mason Crosby has been plenty productive in recent weeks; he's a starting kicker.

Sit 'em: Even assuming he's active, James Starks' usage hasn't been consistent enough to be in fantasy lineups. ... Davante Adams is a fine fantasy stash in case he develops more and/or someone ahead of him gets hurt, but he can't be anywhere near lineups. ... Andrew Quarless has three different games with a flat zero in fantasy scoring. ... You'd think eventually the Saints would have to start scoring at an elite rate, but even if they don't, you don't want to use the Packers' defense.

SAINTS

Start 'em: Week 7 was Drew Brees' first game of 20-plus fantasy points all season. Let's see if he can repeat it in Week 8. I say yes. ... You're probably stuck if you have Jimmy Graham. Gotta use him if you have him. ... Shayne Graham has three games of exactly 12 fantasy points. In a game Sunday that should be high-scoring, Graham ought to kick a lot.

Start 'em?: The Saints' running game struggled Sunday, with a stout opponent and injury issues. With Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas out, Mark Ingram's use should be higher, but he only really profiles as a flex play. ... Even with a zero-point fantasy game on his resume, Marques Colston has been the leading New Orleans receiver. He's a flex play.

Sit 'em: Considering the inactive running backs, Travaris Cadet will be much more involved Sunday than he has been so far, but he's not a starting candidate. ... We loved Brandin Cooks early in the season, but he's offered little in recent weeks; he and Kenny Stills are the kinds of players who you shouldn't start, and you'll miss out on their touchdowns when they do happen. ... The Saints' defense is really bad.

SUMMARY

Start in every league: Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Mason Crosby, Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham, Shayne Graham
Start if you’re desperate: Mark Ingram, Marques Colston
Bench: James Starks, Davante Adams, Andrew Quarless, Green Bay defense, Travaris Cadet, Brandin Cooks, Kenny Stills, New Orleans defense
