With four races scheduled Friday for the beginning of the 2014 Breeders’ Cup, there will be plenty of action for bettors and casual fans alike at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.
Breeders’ Cup odds 2014: Untapable, Goldencents among favorites in 4 Friday races
With the Breeders’ Cup scheduled to begin on Friday, four races will set the stage before Saturday’s Classic.

The first race, the Juvenile Turf event, will pit favorite Hootenanny (3-1) among a field of 15 competitors. The Bay Colt has four shows, including two wins, in four lifetime starts.
Next, the Dirt Mile will feature nine entrants with one scratch in Handsome Mike. Goldencents (6-5) comes in as the favorite after winning the race last year and posting a stellar 2014 season, including one win and three places in four starts.
The Juvenile Fillies Turf is the third race, with Sunset Glow a 7-2 favorite among 16 2-year-old fillies. Although her last start was two months ago, Sunset Glow won the Del Mar Debutante -- a familiar result for the filly, who has three wins and two runner-up finishes in five races this year.
Last but certainly not least, with the largest purse ($2 million) of the evening, is the Longines Distaff. It figures to be a tight race with several horses in the mix. A fever caused last year’s winner, Beholder, to withdraw, leaving Untapable (5-2) with a slight edge over Close Hatches (3-1), who finished as the runner-up to Beholder in 2013. Untapable has won five of six races this year. Iotapa and Belle Gallantey each has designs of making it to the winner’s circle with 6-1 odds.
