Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 5: Texans vs. Cowboys

Both teams enter Sunday with a 3-1 record. Who can get to 4-1 and really prove to be contenders?

Mike Ehrmann

Both the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys enter Week 5 at 3-1. The two teams entered the season with a lot to prove, with the Texans having fallen apart in 2013 and the Cowboys looking likely to struggle, but both have been good teams early on this season. They play each other Sunday, both hoping to get to 4-1 and truly establish their bona fides.

Texans running back Arian Foster and wide receiver Andre Johnson have appeared on the team's injury report this week, with Foster dealing with a hamstring injury and Johnson with an ankle. Both appear likely to play, though it's likely neither will be at full strength. For the Cowboys, both quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant were listed on the injury report, but those appear to be procedural -- neither appears to be at risk of anything.

The Cowboys host the game between the two teams this weekend at 1 p.m. ET. There are a lot of key players for fantasy owners in this game, so here’s a look at who you want to use:

TEXANS

Start 'em: So long as he's on the field, you have to use Arian Foster with his upside in a friendly matchup. Last week, even when he was obviously limited, he got just enough receiving yardage to be moderately helpful, and he should be another week healthier. ... DeAndre Hopkins has definitely outproduced Andre Johnson this year, but both are solid WR2's at worst.

Start 'em?: It's an absolute binary proposition for Alfred Blue -- if Foster plays, Blue sits, but if Foster is out, Blue is in your lineup. ... Randy Bullock has at least been on the edge of helpfulness among fantasy kickers in every game. The Dallas defense is still subpar and he'll get opportunities. ... The Texans' defense had one awful game in the team's loss, and three good games in the team's wins. They're interesting, if not a must-use.

Sit 'em: He's put up double-digit fantasy points all four weeks, but Ryan Fitzpatrick has largely been inaccurate and unspectacular. There's got to be a better option for you. ... The Texans' tight end situation has been disappointing so far, with eight total fantasy points at the position. Sit Garrett Graham.

Start in every league: Arian Foster, DeAndre Hopkins, Andre Johnson

Start if you’re desperate: Alfred Blue, Randy Bullock, Defense/special teams

Bench: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Garrett Graham

COWBOYS

Start 'em: It's been a ridiculous start to the season for DeMarco Murray, with an average of 20 fantasy points a game so far. He is fantasy's top running back. ... Dez Bryant hasn't had a single huge game yet, but he's been consistent enough that he's not disappointing even without being dominant. ... After only five points in Week 1, Dan Bailey has scored at least 10 points a game every week since. He's one of the top kickers.

Start 'em?: He's gotten steadily better as the season has gone on, so Tony Romo is interesting, though I have him just outside my top 10 quarterbacks this week. ... Terrance Williams has scored at least nine fantasy points in three of four games, but he's still sitting at only 14 catches in four games. ... It's been an abysmal start to the season for Jason Witten. He needs to turn it around before you can consider him a weekly starter.

Sit ‘em: The Cowboys’ defense has been decent in recent weeks, with 23 points in the last three weeks, though that’s come against struggling offenses in Tennessee and St. Louis and a New Orleans offense that is much worse on the road. Still a lot more to prove.

Start in every league: DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Dan Bailey

Start if you're desperate: Tony Romo, Terrance Williams, Jason Witten

Bench: Defense/special teams
