After a Week 1 win, the New York Jets have lost three in a row. After a Week 1 loss, the San Diego Chargers have won three in a row. Basically, Week 1 was a complete illusion for both teams, who face each other in Week 5.
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 5: Jets vs. Chargers
The season started one way for both these teams, but both fortunes have changed in the weeks since.

The Jets enter Sunday's game with a couple injuries of note. Wide receiver Eric Decker's hamstring issues continue to bother him, and he's listed as questionable. Running back Chris Johnson is probable with an ankle injury. On the Chargers side, running back Ryan Mathews is still out with a knee injury, while tight end Ladarius Green will be active despite dealing with hamstring issues.
The two teams play in San Diego at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday, and there will be a handful of fantasy contributors worth watching:
JETS
Start 'em: Everyone expected him to be the team's No. 2 running back, but Chris Ivory has played his way into No. 1 territory. He's a fantasy starter now.
Start 'em?: You'd have to be pretty desperate to use the banged-up Chris Johnson, considering his unexciting performance so far this season, but if the health news is good, I guess he could be a flex option. ... Everyone expected Eric Decker to be limited by his injury in Week 4, and he put up 10 fantasy points. So if he's active Sunday, he's reasonable as a flex play. ... Nick Folk has offered some decent value as a kicker for two seasons now. He's helpful.
Sit 'em: It hasn't been an inspiring start for Geno Smith, who put up his worst game in Week 4 with an eight-point fantasy performance. ... Jeremy Kerley had a big Week 3 with Decker banged up, so it's not out of the question that he could produce Sunday, but I think he's a stay-away. ... The only way I'm using Jace Amaro is if I also own the 49ers' Vernon Davis, and I want an insurance policy in case Davis is out. In his own right, there's got to be a better option than Amaro. ... Even being great against the run hasn't helped the Jets' defense in fantasy, with barely five points a game so far.
Start in every league: Chris Ivory
Start if you're desperate: Chris Johnson, Eric Decker, Nick Folk
Bench: Geno Smith, Jeremy Kerley, Jace Amaro, Defense/special teams
CHARGERS
Start 'em: Anyone who still has questions about Philip Rivers just hasn't been paying attention; he's an obvious every-week starter. ... Keenan Allen showed in Week 4 that fantasy owners didn't need to give up on him, and I have him as a solid WR2 this week. ... Nick Novak has had two different 15-point games as a kicker; he's an easy starter. ... Against Geno Smith, the Chargers' defense ought to offer some good value.
Start 'em?: The Jets' pass defense is nothing special at all. I'm not confident in Malcom Floyd or Eddie Royal, but I can see scenarios in which both are productive. ... The same goes for Antonio Gates, despite his struggles outside of that monster Week 2.
Sit 'em: After consecutive uninspiring games, and against a stout Jets' run defense, you can't possibly use Donald Brown, and his backup Branden Oliver doesn't offer much intrigue either. ... At this point, Ladarius Green will only be helpful if Gates gets hurt.
Start in every league: Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen, Nick Novak, Defense/special teams
Start if you’re desperate: Malcom Floyd, Eddie Royal, Antonio Gates
Bench: Donald Brown, Branden Oliver, Ladarius Green
