Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Roman Polak left the team's game against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night after suffering a lower-body injury in the second period. The 28-year-old was battling for position near the corner when Tomas Tatar fell on top of him, seemingly twisting his left ankle in the process.
Roman Polak leaves game with lower body injury
The Maple Leafs defenseman is being evaluated after suffering a lower-body injury Saturday against the Red Wings.
Be warned, it’s not a pretty sight:
Polak couldn’t get off the ice under his own power and immediately headed to the locker room after the injury. His status is unclear at this point as the Maple Leafs evaluate their defenseman, but the team has announced he won’t return Saturday.
The 28-year-old looked to be in serious pain right after the play:
The Maple Leafs acquired Polak during the offseason in a trade with the Blues, sending forward Carl Gunnarsson and a fourth-round pick to St. Louis. He recorded three goals and five points in 20 games with Toronto this season entering Saturday night.
Roman Polak will be out a while according to Randy Carlyle. Will go for an MRI tomorrow.
