Chris Algieri came out in the first round against Manny Pacquiao knowing that he needed to get into a rhythm and not get caught flush like he did repeatedly against Ruslan Provodnikov.

Algieri didn’t end up flat on his back in the first, but he was caught a few times and wobbled at least once by power punches coming from Pacquiao.
Pacquiao seems able to get inside on the taller opponent and his hand speed is there, allowing him to get in with some good shots and not take much return from his lighter hitting opponent.
SB Nation scored the first round 10-9 for Pacquiao, letting him jump to a lead out of the gate.
