Detroit Lions defensive tackle C.J. Mosley has been fined $22,000 by the NFL for his hit on New England Patriots long snapper Danny Aiken, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Mosley was flagged for a personal foul after delivering a helmet-to-helmet hit to Aiken during a Patriots field goal attempt late in the game Sunday.
C.J. Mosley fined $22K for hit vs. Patriots
Lions DT C.J. Mosley has been fined for his hit on the Patriots’ long snapper Sunday.

The Patriots, who were already up by 18 points, ran in for a touchdown on the next play, increasing their lead to 34-9 with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
That late score by the Patriots irked Lions center Dominic Raiola, who retaliated by throwing himself at the legs of Patriots lineman Zach Moore as Detroit took a knee at the end of the game. This is a dirty play any way you look at it, but it might not have happened if Mosley had not speared Aiken on the previous drive.
Coach Jim Caldwell addressed the topic of his team’s hot-headed behavior with reporters following the incident on Sunday. He said the play “was flagged and it was flagged appropriately,“ and that he didn’t condone the questionable hit by Mosley.
This is not the first time that the defensive tackle has gotten into trouble this season. In late October, Mosley was caught with marijuana at the team hotel when the Lions played the Falcons in London. Mosley was sent home and suspended for two weeks by the Lions for conduct detrimental to the team and a violation of team rules.
