(Obviously, it was one week, and there would be no conclusions either way. Give me a break, it’s still fun to look at.)
So, yeah. In one roster, I grouped super-long shots such as Blake Bortles, Marquess Wilson and Tim Wright with theoretical studs Calvin Johnson, Odell Beckham Jr., Matt Forte and Justin Forsett. In the other, I worked in Le'Veon Bell and T.Y. Hilton, but overall I didn't go crazy deep or find ridiculous bargains.
How’d it work out? Well:
For all intents and purposes, those two rosters did exactly the same. The stars-and-scrubs one -- primarily because of Beckham -- did slightly better, but not enough to matter. Again, it was too small a sample to draw any conclusion, but I can say that, with those two rosters, I made ... zero dollars.
Happens. The way Week 15 went, I doubt much of anyone could crack any great code in how to succeed in FanDuel.
This week, keeping it simple: One roster, one strategy. And that strategy? Basically, that the Jets suck:
My primary season-long league team did awful, and fell out of the race early. The one time where it looked like I might make a run was in Week 8 when, with my quarterback on a bye, I opted for Kyle Orton because he was playing the Jets, and the dude had his best game since Jay Cutler was a starting quarterback ... in Denver.
This week, with Aaron Rodgers off a bad game, Andrew Luck faltering a bit of late, Peyton Manning faltering even more ... the top quarterbacks all worried me just a bit, except for Tom Brady. Pairing Brady with what I see as his best wide receiver has me excited.
On top of that, I get Fred Jackson underpriced against Oakland, a game where the Bills should be run-heavy. I get Bell, because you always want Bell. I'm going out on a limb and predicting an Eric Ebron touchdown, and I'm ready to change out Donte Moncrief if reports on T.Y. Hilton sound bad heading into Sunday.
Ultimately, there wasn’t much takeaway from Week 15 in the NFL. Crap happened, so I shrugged it off, and I’m looking toward a new week. A quarterback-receiver combo against the Jets is one heck of a salve.
