The first ever College Football Playoff is nearly here. On Jan. 1, fans will be treated to the two biggest matchups of the season. In the Rose Bowl, Oregon will play “host” to a Florida State team that hasn’t lost since November of 2012. Later that evening, Ohio State will try to upset Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. The winner of those games will meet in the championship game on Jan. 12 in Arlington, Texas.

Rose Bowl: No. 3 Florida State vs. No. 2 Oregon -- 5 p.m. ET, Jan. 1, 2015

Florida State is college football's defending national champion, but it hasn't always looked like a title contender this season. The Seminoles survived several close calls to remain undefeated. They may not be so lucky against a high-powered Oregon offense sporting Heisman winner Marcus Mariota.

Sugar Bowl: No. 4 Ohio State vs. No. 1 Alabama -- 8:30 p.m. ET, Jan. 1, 2015

Ohio State closed out the season in dominant fashion, beating Wisconsin 59-0 with third-string quarterback Cardale Jones in the Big Ten Championship. The Buckeyes better be on top of their game again when they head south to face the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama is one of the most complete teams in college football, with offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin constructing an offense (16th in FBS in points per game) that can complement what has consistently been one of the best defenses in football in recent years.
