Sochi 2014: Men’s snowboarding, women’s speed skating highlights Tuesday schedule

Day 6 of the Olympics is upon us. With 10 different events on the slate and seven gold medals up for grabs, there will be plenty to keep an eye on on Tuesday.

Women’s Sprint Free Finals 8:22 a.m. ET, Men’s Sprint Free Finals, 8:30 a.m.

With more than 150 skiers set to hit the slopes for qualifying, it will be a long day before any medals are handed out. For Team USA, keep an eye on Andrew Newell, Simi Hamilton, Torin Koos and Erik Bjornsen on the men’s side and Ida Sargent, Kikkan Randall, Jessica Diggins and Sophie Caldwell on the women’s.

Women’s Singles Runs 3 and 4, 9:30 a.m.

With two runs already in the books, medals in what may just be the craziest event of the Olympics will be handed out on Tuesday. After finishing second in the first run and third in the second, Team USA’s Erin Hamlin has an excellent chance to bring home a medal. She will get a really tough challenge from Germans Tatjana Huefner and Natalie Geisenberger.

Women’s Normal Hill, 1:20 p.m.

Are you ready to get some air? In an event that as much mental discipline as it does physical, jumpers will look to get as aerodynamic as possible to get that extra inch or two on the hill. This event marks the first time women’s ski jumping will be included in the Winter Olympics after years of pleading for its inclusion. Team USA’s Sarah Hendrickson is the defending world champion and will look to win gold.

Men’s Halfpipe, 12:30 p.m.

All eyes will be on Shaun White as he competes for gold in the halfpipe, which has received its fair share of criticisms this week from the competitors. Snowboarding is always one of the most-watched events of the Winter Olympics, and that should continue to be the case on Tuesday afternoon.

Women’s 500m Races 1 and 2, 7:45 a.m., 9:35 a.m.

One of the fastest and most exciting events of the Winter Olympics, there will be two races -- one on the inside track and one on the outside -- to determine the medalists in this one. Team USA will have a strong chance to medal with Heather Richardson and Brittany Bowe expected to challenge defending champion Sang Hwa Lee of Korea.
