Winter Olympics 2014: Hockey takes center stage on Wednesday

It’s hockey time at the Olympics.

Martin Rose

Wednesday is a hockey day at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Those sitting down to watch the Olympics will find the showdown everyone has been waiting for in women’s hockey as well as the first two men’s hockey games of the tournament. The United States and Canada, the two top-ranked teams in women’s hockey, will meet at 7:30 a.m. ET in pool play.

In men’s hockey, the Czech Republic will play against Sweden at noon while Latvia and Switzerland play at the same time. From here on out, hockey will be one of the predominant sports at the 2014 Olympics.

Aside from hockey, there are a handful of medal events on Wednesday. The main event to watch in the United States will be women’s snowboarding. The qualifying stage was completed earlier in the day, but the semifinals and final lie ahead. Since snowboarding became a part of the Olympics, the United States has taken home half of the medals available in women’s events. Odds are that will continue this year with returning medalists Kelly Clark and Hannah Teter leading the charge.

Here’s a list of events for Wednesday. The must-see events are bolded. (All times Eastern.)
