For the second straight day at the Olympics, figure skating will be centered around pairs skating events.
2014 Winter Olympic figure skating schedule: Russia the favorite for gold Wednesday
It’s become a bit of a two-horse race for the gold medal in pairs figure skating.

So far, only three medals have been handed out in figure skating events. The Russians have a gold, Canada has a silver and the United States has a bronze. The second medal event for figure skating takes place on Wednesday.
Pairs free skating gets underway at 10:45 a.m. ET.
The scores from Wednesday’s free skating event will be combined with the scores from the pairs short programs that took place on Tuesday in order to determine final scores and medals for the pairs figure skating.
Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov of Russia are in the lead after the short program in which they had a score of 84.17. The next highest score was 79.64 from Aliona Savechenko Robin Szolkowy of Germany. Those two pairs appear to be the favorites heading into the free skating event, considering the substantial lead they’ve built up over the rest of the field. Russia has two of the top three pairs heading into the second day of competition.
The United States has dug itself into a bit of a hole in the pairs figure skating after finishing in ninth in the short program on Tuesday.
