Update: Medal count after Friday’s full schedule

The mid-point of the 2014 Olympics have arrived, and with three events already in the books on Friday, Norway continues to lead the United States in the overall medal count. The count at the top of the leaderboard has not changed since Thursday’s action wrapped up, though there was a bit of shuffling in the middle of the pack.

Norway leads all nations with 13 total medals. The United States is tied with the Netherlands with 12 medals. The Americans have claimed four gold medals, two silver and six bronze up until now.

Switzerland cleaned up with the first two gold medals on Friday. Sandro Viletta won the men’s skiing super combined slalom by holding off Ivica Kostelic of Croatia and Christof Innerhofer of Italy by less than half-a-second. The Swiss’ second gold came as Dario Cologna dominated the men’s cross-country 15km classic. Cologna crossed the finish line 28.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

On the women’s side, Belarus’ Darya Domracheva cruised to a gold medal in the 15km individual biathlon. She won the event 43:19.6, more than a minute better than anyone else in the field. Switzerland would not be denied, though, as Selina Gasparin took home silver to continue their big day.

There are still a handful of medals up for grabs today, with men’s figure skating, women’s freestyle skiing and the final runs of women’s skeleton still on the docket.
