2014 Olympics: Event schedule for Saturday

Ice sports dominate the Olympic schedule on Saturday, headllned by USA-Russia in men’s ice hockey and three skating medals, but you’ll get your money’s worth on the slopes with the women’s Super-G.

Hockey fans, rejoice; Saturday is a big day. The United States and Russia square off on the ice as part of a four-game day in men’s hockey, while the women’s circuit boasts two quarterfinal matchups.

Then there’s curling, which is basically if hockey were a bar sport, and there are 11 more games to sate curling fans’ appetites on Saturday: seven in women’s and four in men’s. The American men are off, but you’ll be able to see the USA women’s team face off against Sweden. No love lost between the USA and Sweden!

Elsewhere on the ice, the short track hosts action in the men’s 1000m and the women’s 1500m, with both distances heading to medal by the end of the day. Canadian Charle Cournoyer posted the fastest time in 1000m heats two days ago, but with seven other racers posting times within a second of Cournoyer’s 1:24.787, this one’s wide open. In regular speed skating, the men will be skating for medals in the 1500m.

Julia Mancuso leads the American attack in the women’s Super-G -- quite possibly the best alpine skiing event of them all -- after pulling off a bronze medal in the super combined. She’s something of a long shot in the Super-G, but all it takes is one magical run and a hero is made.

Other action includes a cross-country skiing medal relay, large hill ski jumping for medals and two men’s skeleton heats. Here is your complete schedule for the day (all times are ET, medal events are in italics):
