The opening events of Tuesday were kind to France, who took home a gold and a silver in early competition. Sochi keeps rolling on with more opportunities for gold in the Ski Halfpipe, Nordic Combined and 10000 m Speed Skating later in the day, but the early results are starting to shape the medal tally.

France sits in 11th place with three gold medals, but climbed in the total medal tally with eight in the Winter Olympics thus far. It took a photo finish to award the French a gold in Snowboard Cross, while Martin Fourcade won his third medal of these games with a silver in the Biathlon.

Team USA remains in fifth place behind the Netherlands with five gold medals. Another gold would vault them into second place, and there’s a good chance that could happen in the halfpipe when three-time X Games gold medalist David Wise takes on the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

It’s unclear if any team will be able to catch Germany. Dominance in luge has given the Germans four of their eight gold medals, with a strong chance at another in the Nordic Combined, where Eric Frenzel aims to win his second gold of Sochi.

The host country is currently in third place, with Russia winning a silver medal on Tuesday. It has been a good games for the home team, but the top place on the podium has evaded them on eight occasions, settling for silver in numerous events.

Here is the medal count for the Top 10 countries so far, you can find the complete medal tally with SB Nation’s medal tracker app.
