Angels starter C.J. Wilson survived a scary moment while throwing live batting practice on Tuesday when he was struck by a line drive on the left side of his head. Luckily, Wilson stood right back up and left under his own power despite a little bleeding on the left side of his head, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

Wilson underwent a CT scan after leaving the field and later confirmed on his Twitter account that he didn’t suffer a concussion and should be fine moving forward. The 33-year-old finished with a 3.39 ERA in 212.1 innings pitched for the Angels last season and has thrown at least 200 innings in four straight seasons. For now, he appears to have escaped any serious injury.
Chacin receives good news after MRI
After the Rockies shut down Jhoulys Chacin with shoulder inflammation, the right-hander's MRI on Monday revealed no structural damage, and Chacin should be able to resume shoulder exercises within the next few days, according to The Denver Post's Troy Renck. This is encouraging news for the Rockies, as the team had feared Chacin's shoulder problems might keep him out for an extended period of time.
Now, as Chacin told Renck on Tuesday, the 26-year-old should miss no more than “2-3 starts” and hasn’t ruled out being ready for Opening Day. Chacin was Colorado’s best pitcher in 2013, posting a 3.47 ERA over 31 starts.
Garcia seeking second opinion on shoulder
Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia will seek a second opinion on his ongoing shoulder discomfort after the club shut down the left-hander on Saturday, according to Derek Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Garcia traveled back to St. Louis to undergo an MRI on Monday and will now get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old had surgery last May to repair a partially torn labrum and hasn’t pitched in the majors since. In his last full season back in 2012, Garcia finished with a 3.92 ERA and, when healthy, has been an effective starter for the Cardinals. At this point, however, Garcia looks unlikely to be ready for Opening Day.
Simon to join Reds rotation with Latos sidelined
The Reds will use pitcher Alfredo Simon as a starter during spring training while Mat Latos works his way back from knee surgery, according to Gary Schatz of The Associated Press. Simon hasn't started a big league game since doing so in 2011 with the Orioles, but has been an effective reliever for the Reds, compiling a 2.78 ERA in 99 appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen since 2012. In 16 starts for the Orioles in 2011, Simon posted a 4.96 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 94.1 innings.
There is a chance Latos is ready to return once the season begins, but just in case the Reds need an extra starter in April, manager Bryan Price is planning to stretch out Simon this spring. Latos underwent minor surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee last Friday and should resume throwing next week.
