The largest deal of the NHL trade deadline came a week early, as the Buffalo Sabres traded goalie Ryan Miller to the St. Louis Blues in a five-player trade including Jaroslav Halak.

    Clearly, Armstrong has a good poker face, but he was also right: The Blues didn’t have much rational, measurable reason to dump Halak and spend valuable draft picks on a goalie who has similar numbers.

    Yet Armstrong made the pricey move anyway.

    After all, goaltending was the one perceived weakness in St. Louis, and Miller is a household name around the league that not only has a stellar reputation, but is also having one of his best seasons to date while playing behind the worst team in the league.

    This should make the Blues better, and let’s face it, it probably does.
