2014 Winter Olympics figure skating: Germans dance as Paris Hilton, nerdy professor

This probably wasn’t what you were expecting from the figure skating portion of the show.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Figure skating is an elegant and graceful sport. Points are awarded for technique, style and interpretation. It’s as much an art form as it is a sport.

On Saturday morning during the team short dance, figuring skating lost its innocence. Germans Nelli Zhiganshina and Alexander Gazsi added quite the twist to the usually serious sport of figure skating by taking the roles of Paris Hilton and the nerdy professor.

Apparently the German interpretation of Paris Hilton and the nerdy professor is quite a bit more G-rated than the American interpretation. In fact, maybe points should be taken off for that.

But the Germans actually scored a 58.04 for the dance and that put them in the lead at the time. Were the judges distracted by the subject matter? Have the Germans started a new trend in the figure skating world? Is nothing sacred anymore?
