With just four checkpoints remaining between the race leaders and the finish line in Nome, the 2014 Iditarod is barreling in on a dramatic finish.
2014 Iditarod: Route, weather and more: Jeff King leads heading into White Mountain
The veteran racer is closing in his fifth career Iditarod win.

Jeff King, who sat hours out of first earlier in the race, has roared back to overtake Aliy Zirkle at the top of the leader board. King, who could become only the second five-time champion in race history with a win, departed Elim eight minutes ahead of Zirkle, who is trying to avoid a third runner-up finish.
Dallas Seavey lurks not far behind in third place.
The leaders will be covering a stretch between Elim and White Mountain, passing through Golovin on the way. The stretch to Golovin runs out over sea ice before climbing a 1,000-foot peak above Golovin Bay. From there, it’s a relatively easy two or three hour trip to White Mountain, the last major stop before Nome.

Once in White Mountain, the teams will be required to take an eight-hour break. From there, they’ll have only 77 miles to the finish line.
