John van ‘t Schip signs three-year extension at Melbourne Heart

Manchester City have chosen the Dutch manager to bridge the Melbourne Heart era with the new form of the club.

The man who will lead Melbourne Heart through its Manchester-based revolution will be John van ‘t Schip. Having returned to the sideline after John Aloisi’s ouster in December, van ‘t Schip’s Heart have been nothing short of remarkable. Though results have been less sparkling in the past two weeks, Heart CEO Scott Munn and Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano decided to entrust the club transition to its inaugural manager. van ‘t Schip’s new contract will run through 2016/17, adding three full years to his tenure.

Said Munn in a club press release:

“John has not only secured great results and helped the team build on our philosophy of playing attractive football, but he has illustrated that he has the ability and desire to take the club forward next season.”

Soriano added:

“We are very happy that John van ‘t Schip will remain Head Coach of Melbourne Heart FC. Playing good football is at the centre of our plans for the future of the club and John has already demonstrated his ability to help us achieve that ambition.”

As Heart begin its shift in ownership and identity, the club will need some source of familiarity. van ‘t Schip is the only successful manager the club has ever employed and will be an easily identified link to the current iteration of Heart once the transformation to a City satellite is complete.
