Cliff Lee continued his dominance over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, twirling a complete game, allowing one run on 10 hits, striking out 13, while walking only one. All this served as the opening act on Wednesday night, with Braves starter Julio Teheran taking center stage, firing off a complete game shutout, allowing three hits, and notching four strikeouts against zero walks. Evan Gattis served as the offensive star of the game, rapping four hits including the solo home run that served as the difference in the game, as Lee nimbly avoided damage otherwise.

The last time two starters went nine innings for complete games was 2012 with Felix Hernandez squaring off against Liam Hendriks (ycpb). Neither pitcher was quite as dominating that night as Lee was tonight, as they combined for 11 strikeouts, two short of Lee's total alone.There were two pairs of complete games last year, but each involved a pitcher going only eight innings, as Yusmeiro Petit's near-perfect game defeated Patrick Corbin, and Zack Greinke went the distance, besting Tyler Chatwood.
Lee’s complete game bring his career totals versus Atlanta to 108⅔ innings, 126 strikeouts, eight walks and 32 earned runs (2.65 ERA). Teheran had previously struggled against Philadelphia, racking up a 5.79 ERA in 18⅔ innings, prior to Wednesday’s game.
The win moves Atlanta to 10-4 and they remain in first place in the National League East. Philadelphia drops to 6-8 and will remain in fourth place.
