There will be plenty of action leading up to the famous Pimlico race, including some musical performances.

Matthew Stockman

On May 17, the Preakness Stakes will be run for the 139th time at Pimilico down in beautiful Baltimore, Md. Before that, there will be a week of races and festivities leading up to the second leg of the triple crown that sets the stage for what the horse racing community hopes will be a classic afternoon.

On Saturday, May 10, The Bridge play a concert at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor to kick off the week. The Bridge is a local band who are well-known in the area. Tickets are $25 for the concert.

On Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14, the days begins early with the tradition of Sunrise at Old Hilltop. Patrons can watch the horses work out in the morning from the grandstand apron while the sun comes up. Later on Wednesday, the post draw will take place, slotting the horses into their gates.

The Preakness Alibi breakfast will take place Thursday, serving as a media and awards meal. Tickets are available to regular people but are very limited. Thursday also allows for another Sunrise at Old Hilltop, as does Friday.

On Friday, the real action starts after sunrise when jockeys hold their autograph session from 10-11 a.m. From 12-2 p.m. there is a book signing of Healthy Stables by Design followed by the annual Black-Eyed Susan Race, which is comprised of a mile and one-eighth track for three-year-old fillies.

On Saturday, InfieldFest goes on throughout the afternoon with a bevy of activities including a live concert leading into the main race.
