How to watch the 2014 Preakness live online, tv coverage, radio and more

Follow along as California Chrome races to become the sixth horse in 12 years to win the first two jewels of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

Update: California Chrome wins Preakness Stakes

With a win at Saturday’s Preakness Stakes, California Chrome would become the sixth horse since 2002 to win the first two jewels of the Triple Crown. Over the past 10 years, it seemed almost commonplace for a horse to win both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. War Emblem, Funny Cide and Smarty Jones went back-to-back from 2002-04. Of those three, Smarty Jones did best. He was a 1-5 favorite and led by a length with one furlong to go, holding the lead well before entering the final stretch, but he ran out of gas and lost to 36-1 shot Birdstone.

Before California Chrome’s owners and fans can start thinking about the Belmont Stakes, he must hold off the nine other horses in the field at Pimlico. California Chrome is the 3-5 favorite, according to OddsShark, and the runner-up favorite is Social Inclusion at 5-1.

Ride On Curlin, which finished seventh in a crowded pack at the Kentucky Derby, and Bob Baffert-trained Bayern are each at 10-1 odds.

NBC has offered avenues for viewers to tune in both on television and online well before the 10 horses break out of the gate at Pimlico. NBCSN will begin its coverage at 1:30 p.m. ET live from Pimlico, and that coverage will move to NBC at 4:30 p.m. All of that coverage will be available on the NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports Live Extra app.
