Triple Crown odds 2014: California Chrome has 2-1 odds to take home title
The Kentucky Derby winner has strong odds to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome heads into the 2014 Preakness Stakes as the favorite to win at Pimlico Race Course, and the colt currently has 2-1 odds to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978, according to Bovada. The odds for the horse to fall short are currently at 1-3.
California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby rather handily, taking control down the stretch run and winning by 1¾ lengths. Prior to his victory at Churchill Downs, California Chrome had won his previous four starts by a combined 24½ lengths.
California Chrome did have a health scare earlier in the week when a blister was discovered in his throat after he was heard coughing. However, the colt got through a test run on a sloppy track just fine on Friday and has been deemed fit to race.
California Chrome is currently a 3-5 favorite to win the Preakness, and his biggest challenger may be from Social Inclusion, who’s at 5-1. Social Inclusion didn’t race in the Kentucky Derby and dealt with a foot bruise in early May, but he has won two out of his three races and is ready to go for Saturday.
