Preakness Stakes undercard results: Magic Cash wins first race of the day

The undercard at Pimlico is well underway.

The 2014 Preakness Stakes is scheduled for a 6:20 p.m. ET post on Saturday, but first, there are 11 undercard races. So far, three are in the books at Pimlico Race Course.

In the first race of the day, featuring a $50,000 purse, Magic Cash, the second favorite at 5/1 odds, won with a 1 1/16-mile time of 1:44.98. Longshot Phlash Phelps (20/1) was second, and Relentless Ride (6/1) came in third. The favorite, Margin, came in fourth.

In Race No. 2, a 1 1/16-mile affair with a $40,000 purse, 5/2 favorite Lunar Rock crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:44.51. No brakes, with 6/1 odds, placed second. Regal Warrior, the second favorite at 3/1, was third.

Race No. 3 was also 1 1/16 miles, paying out a $55,000 purse. Romp City was one of the favorites at 6/1, and sprinted around the track in 1:44.26. Going To Market, with 8/1 odds, finished second, and Tom Kitten, a 12/1 shot, was third. Cheyenne Nation, the morning-line favorite at 2/1, was scratched.

Eight more races, including the 113th Dixie Stakes, remain before the Preakness begins.
