On Monday, Louisville became the first team eliminated from the College World Series. On Tuesday, Ole Miss and Texas Tech will be trying not to follow them out the door.
College World Series 2014 Tuesday schedule: Ole Miss, Texas Tech battle for survival
The Rebels and Red Raiders face each other in an afternoon elimination game while TCU and Virginia battle for the all-important bye later in the evening.

They’ll meet in a mid-afternoon losers’ bracket game to decide who goes home and who stays alive for another 48 hours. The winner will advance to play the loser of the Tuesday night battle between Virginia and TCU, a game that will decide who earns a critical bye on Thursday. By winning Tuesday night, either the Cavaliers or Horned Frogs won’t have to play again until Friday.
TCU’s gamble not to throw their ace in Game 1 against Texas Tech paid off (though throwing Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Preston Morrison instead isn’t much of a gamble), and now they’ll have MLB first-round draft pick Brandon Finnegan on the mound against Virginia. The Cavs will counter with Brandon Waddell, who has allowed only three runs in his last 17⅓ innings.
Ole Miss will need to bounce back from a tough loss to Virginia that ended in a ninth-inning walkoff hit from first-rounder Mike Papi. The Rebels’ prolific offense managed just one hit against Nathan Kirby that night, marking the first time a team has been one-hit in Omaha since 1983. If they can find their bats again, they’ll feel confident with starting pitcher Christian Trent, who’s 9-0 this season.
