The last time Texas and UC Irvine met, the Anteaters rallied past the Longhorns with a come-from-behind 3-1 win in their opening round College World Series matchup. Now Texas will get a shot at revenge.
College World Series 2014 schedule: Texas gets another swing at UC Irvine
The Longhorns get a shot to avenge their opening-round loss in an elimination game Wednesday night.

With Texas having survived an elimination game against Louisville and UC Irvine falling to Vanderbilt in the winners’ bracket game, the two schools meet again in a win-or-go-home game Wednesday night. The winner will get the opportunity to go back up and play Vanderbilt for the right to advance to the national championship series (though they’ll have to beat the undefeated Commodores twice to advance).
Texas will put its season in the hands of Chad Hollingsworth, who will be making just his second start of the season. If it goes anything like his first start, the Longhorns will be in business. Hollingsworth threw a complete game one-hitter in the regional round against Texas A&M. The sophomore does have 23 relief appearances and totes an intimidating 1.36 ERA.
UC Irvine will counter with Evan Manarino, who is 4-3 over 10 starts with a 2.79 ERA. Manarino made a relief appearance against Texas last Saturday, giving up one hit and recording two outs in the seventh.
