After the American League stormed out to a three run lead behind a double from Derek Jeter, a triple from Mike Trout and a home run from Miguel Cabrera, the National League struck back in the top of the second against Boston Red Sox starter Jon Lester. Giancarlo Stanton started the inning with a fly out, but Aramis Ramirez (he of the silent walk-up) singled and Chase Utley followed with a run-scoring double to right-center field. Jonathan Lucroy, in the starting lineup after Yadier Molina was removed with a thumb injury, followed with a double of his own, bringing the NL within one run.

Clayton Kershaw set down the AL without incident in the bottom of the second inning, keeping the score 3-2, thanks to a nice defensive play from Ramirez.
