San Diego State loses North Carolina upset bid on end zone interception

The Big Ten does not have a monopoly on poor Saturday performances by ranked teams. No. 21 North Carolina hosted San Diego State and came all too close to dropping the game. Trailing 27-21 in the fourth, the Tar Heels took the lead on Elijah Hood’s two-yard touchdown and made the score 31-27 on Nick Weiler’s 23-yard field goal just a few minutes later.

The Aztecs were not quite done, driving down the field and setting up what seemed to be the perfect opportunity to win the game: second-and-goal from the Tar Heels’ four with two timeouts left. What did they draw up? This:

That’s Tim Scott coming through with the game-winning interception: it was held up on review. North Carolina is now 2-0, with tough games against East Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame up next on the schedule.
