Ruben Tejada gets to ride his replacement around like a small horse

Matt Reynolds is on the Mets’ postseason roster because Ruben Tejada’s leg is broken. The job comes with responsibilities, though.

On Saturday night, Chase Utley broke Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada’s leg on a late takeout slide at second base. It was bad for everyone -- Tejada, the Mets, Utley’s dumb face. Everyone, that is, except for rookie Matt Reynolds, who was called up after spending the entire season in Triple-A.

And now Ruben Tejada gets to ride him around like a small horse.

Those are the unwritten rules. The rookie has to carry the broken player he’s replacing. It’s been like that since the beginning of time.

Take me to Shake Shack, rookie.
