Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 wide receivers to target for Week 6

Amari Cooper, Mike Evans and Tavon Austin all have byes in Week 6. We look at some potential waiver wire options at the receiver position.

Week 6 of the fantasy football season is upon us, and just like last week there are four bye teams to account for.

The Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys all get the week off, so fantasy owners will have to look for replacements for players like Amari Cooper, Mike Evans and Tavon Austin. The good news is that there were no notable wide receiver injuries from Week 5, and fantasy studs like Dez Bryant and Alshon Jeffery are expected back soon.

So help is on the way. Until then, here are some potential waiver wire options owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Willie Snead, New Orleans Saints (43 percent)

An undrafted free agent in 2014, Snead has quickly won a big role in the Saints’ offense, grabbing six catches for 141 yards and leading the team with 11 targets against the Philadelphia Eagles. With Marques Colston likely looking at an extended absence after separating his shoulder, Snead should continue to be the No. 2 receiver next to Brandin Cooks. He carries WR3 upside against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.

Marvin Jones, Cincinnati Bengals (36 percent)

Jones is a bit more inconsistent than you’d like from your WR3, but the boom-or-bust player still has great “boom” days. He reeled in five catches for 61 yards against the Seattle Seahawks, and while most of those yards came on one catch, Jones is getting plenty of looks with Andy Dalton on fire right now. He’ll get another tough matchup with the Buffalo Bills next week, but Jones has shown enough to prove he belongs on fantasy rosters.

Ted Ginn, Carolina Panthers (32 percent)

Ginn is obviously miscast as a No. 1 receiver, but that’s all the Panthers have to work with. Despite that, he’s been surprisingly productive in his few targets, grabbing two touchdowns on three catches against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4. In standard leagues you’re probably not starting Ginn, especially against the Seattle Seahawks, but he remains an interesting dart throw in DFS. Ginn’s value will increase if he gets matched up with Cary Williams, who was consistently picked on by the Bengals on Sunday.

Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers (10 percent)

Montgomery enjoyed his best game yet, recording 59 yards and a touchdown on four catches against the St. Louis Rams. He still has a low floor as the No. 3 receiver behind Randall Cobb and James Jones, but Montgomery should keep playing a role as long as Davante Adams is sidelined. He’s a fine WR4 play against the Eagles’ 26th-ranked pass defense.

Marquess Wilson, Chicago Bears (seven percent)

Wilson stepped up with Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal out, grabbing six catches for 85 yards and a touchdown in a comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson will go back to being an afterthought once Jeffery and Royal come back, but both players have been out with long, lingering injuries, so keep an eye on the practice reports. If either receiver is forced to miss another game, then Wilson has a plum matchup with the Detroit Lions’ defense.
