Stephen Gionta spears Mark Borowiecki in a very unfortunate place

Insert inappropriate joke here.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Stephen Gionta could be facing supplemental discipline after this play against the Ottawa Senators. The New Jersey Devils forward went low on Senator Mark Borowiecki after the Ottawa defenseman went high on a hit.

It’s possible both Gionta and Borowiecki get looked at by the NHL Department of Player Safety, as while Gionta got the retaliation penalty that resulted in a five minute major to Ottawa, Borowiecki may have been intentionally targeting the head of the visiting winger.

Regardless, low blow, Gionta.
