The Miami Marlins have been in need of a new manager after a rough and weird season filled with injuries. Less than a week after parting ways with the Dodgers after the 2015 season, Don Mattingly found a new home. The Marlins held a press conference on Nov. 1, at 10 a.m., introducing Mattingly as the club's new manager. The contract is for four years per Vice Sports' Molly Knight.
Marlins have hired Don Mattingly as new manager
Mattingly inherits a team in turmoil and in need of stability.

After firing Mike Redmond mid-season, Marlins general manager Dan Jennings stepped down to the field to take over as the interim manager for the remainder of the season. Redmond had served as the Miami manager since 2013, to the tune of a .428 record. The team didn't fare much better under Jennings, but by then the ship for 2015 had already sailed. It was determined after the season that Jennings would not remain in the field role in 2016.
Mattingly, who was the favorite for the Marlins job for some time, will be the eighth manager for the Marlins since 2010. He inherits a team floundering wildly and in need of stabilization. Mattingly was the Dodgers manager for the last five seasons and took the team to three straight postseason appearances. Despite being offered an extension, he chose to part ways with the club.
The Dodgers had said at the time they would pay the remainder of Mattingly’s 2016 salary, but with him taking a new job it’s not confirmed whether that will remain the case. Knight noted that it’s not known how much or if Mattingly will even take any of his coaching staff to Miami with him. All members of the Dodger staff were informed they were free to pursue other avenues.
