Royals score first run of Game 3 on goofiest non-double play of the postseason

Noah Syndergaard is throwing gas, and I’m thinking the gas made everyone dizzy.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

In the top of the first inning, there was already action. Noah Syndergaard threw at Alcides Escobar’s head, Ben Zobrist hit a double, and Lorenzo Cain hit a royals*. With runners at first and third and one out, the Mets were looking for a double play. They almost got it.

Almost.

The Royals went up 1-0, and I’ve seen the play 30 times, and I still can’t tell if they would have turned the double play if Syndergaard stays the heck away. Probably?
