2015 Breeders’ Cup Classic odds: American Pharoah favored to win final race
American Pharoah is trying to become the first horse to win the American Grand Slam.
American Pharoah is the heavy favorite heading into the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday afternoon at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Ky, given 3/5 odds by the betting public as of 4:05 p.m. ET, 90 minutes before post time.
The Triple Crown winner won eight straight races but was upset on Aug. 29, finishing second at the Travers Stakes in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. With a win, he would become the first horse to win the American Grand Slam by adding the $5 million Classic to his Triple Crown.
Keen Ice, the winner of that upset, has 7-1 odds from the second gate. After finishing seventh in the Kentucky Derby and third in The Belmont Stakes this year, Keen Ice finished second to American Pharoah at the Haskell Invitational in New Jersey before the upset in Saratoga Springs.
The second favorite on the board was Honor Code at 4-1 odds. The 4-year-old won the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont in July and the Whitney Handicap in August before finishing third in the Kelso Handicap on a sloppy track at Belmont earlier this month.
Tonalist, who ended California Chrome’s Triple Crown bid with a win at the 2014 Belmont Stakes, has 6-1 odds in The Classic. After finishing fifth in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Tonalist opens in the first gate on Saturday.
Beholder was a contender at 3-1 odds but was scratched on Thursday.
