Stanley Biwott of Kenya has to dig deep and push himself to the very last second of the 2015 NYC Marathon, but it was well worth the exhausting effort as he crossed the finish line in the top spot to earn his first-ever title in the race.
New York City Marathon 2015: Kenya’s Stanley Biwott wins NYC Marathon
Stanley Biwott earned his first NYC marathon title by outrunning fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor by just 14 seconds.


Biwott finished in an unofficial 2 hours, 10 minutes and 34 seconds to earn the victory, finishing just 14 seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor. Lelisa Desisa, who is the reigning Boston Marathon champion, finished third while defending NYC Marathon winner Wilson Kipsang finished fourth.
Biwott averaged just under five minutes per mile in the race. He previously ran to fifth place in the NYC Marathon in 2013 and was a runner-up in the London Marathon. This is his first victory in one of the world’s major marathons.
The top American finisher was Meb Keflezighi finished in seventh place, right around three minutes behind Biwott’s winning time.
