Drew Brees just tied an all-time NFL record for touchdown passes in a single game. The Saints’ prolific passer threw seven touchdown passes against the Giants, adding his name to the record books once again while leading the Saints to a come-from-behind 52-49 victory. Brees finished the game an incredible 40-of-50 passing for a career high 511 yards, with seven touchdown passes and one interception.

As it turns out, the reports of the Saints' demise may have been greatly exaggerated. After trading away Drew Brees' biggest weapon in Jimmy Graham over the offseason, it looked like New Orleans was in rebuild mode as they held a fire sale on some of their key players. But nonetheless, Brees has led the Saints to a 4-4 record through eight weeks, and while it hasn't always been pretty, that offense is still clearly very dangerous and capable of scoring points in bunches.
Brees went an insane 19 of 21 for 300 yards and four touchdowns in the first half as the Saints jumped out to a 28-21 lead, with one of his biggest plays coming on a flea-flicker touchdown strike to Willie Snead.
Brees then wasted little time as the second half got started, throwing his second touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks to push his touchdown total to five with just over nine minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. As the game then turned into a crazy back and forth battle, Brees added to his touchdown tally with his sixth when he hit Benjamin Watson up the seam for 20-yards with 33 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, then added his seventh when he found C.J. Spiller with 41 seconds remaining in the game, tying it back up. A Kai Forbath 50-yard field goal then won the game for the Saints as time ran out.
Brees’ previous best passing day came back in 2006, when he threw for 510 yards. He had thrown six touchdowns in a game once in his career, back in 2009 against Detroit, and he’s thrown five touchdowns in a game eight times in his career.
