Jeremy Lamb and the Charlotte Hornets are closing in on a three-year extension that would be worth about $21 million, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Lamb ended up in Charlotte in a trade last summer with Oklahoma City, the team who drafted him. The fourth-year guard was one of the core pieces of the Rockets' trade for James Harden in the summer of 2012. He played 78 games for the Thunder in the 2013-14 season, but that number dropped to 47 last season despite Kevin Durant missing most of the season.
Charlotte clearly has liked what they’ve seen early on from Lamb. In the two games so far, Lamb has played 15 and 18 minutes, combing for 20 points. Lamb had a solid, if unspectacular, preseason for the Hornets, too. While $7 million per year is a big figure for a player who hasn’t yet proven to be a consistent contributor, the upcoming salary cap rise should make it look a little more reasonable.
