The Nuggets, a professional NBA team, scored 5 points in a quarter

That’s just awful.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

At halftime in Friday's game against the Mavericks, Denver led by six points, 52-48. At the end of the third quarter, Dallas led 73-57.

The Nuggets, a professional basketball franchise who employ 15 professional basketball players, scored five points in an entire quarter. They didn't score a single point until just over three minutes were left. Instead of scoring on offense, Denver decided to do things like this.

Five points is the fewest the Mavericks have ever allowed in a quarter. In NBA history, the Mavericks are actually tied with the Warriors for the fewest points ever scored in a quarter since 1954. On April 6, 1997, Dallas scored only two points. Golden State accomplished the two-point quarter on Feb. 8, 2004.

Denver just got perilously close to that notorious record and pretty much lost a winnable game in the process.
