Week 8 was not fun for several fantasy owners. There were a number of receivers suffering an injury, including Baltimore Ravens receiver Steve Smith tearing his Achilles. We also saw guys like Calvin Johnson, Kendall Wright, Keenan Allen and Eddie Royal go down.
Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 wide receivers to target for Week 9
There were a lot of receivers who got hurt last week. Who should fantasy owners look to off the waiver wire?
With so many guys out of the picture, that means there are a lot of pickups to make.
Kamar Aiken, Baltimore Ravens (owned in 18 percent of leagues)
The Ravens are in deep trouble. They are now down to Aiken, Chris Givens and Marlon Brown because rookie Breshad Perriman is also out in addition to Smith. The Ravens are certainly a run-first offense, but Joe Flacco is second in the league in pass attempts.
Aiken could wind up being a WR2 just due to all of the volume headed his way.
Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers (owned in 19 percent of leagues)
With Keenan Allen out, Floyd is almost a must-add player. Philip Rivers throws the ball a ton and now Floyd is the top option down the field.
Brandon LaFell, New England Patriots (owned in 67 percent of leagues)
He finally got his season off the ground on Thursday with four catches for 47 yards. LaFell just made his season debut on Sunday Oct. 25, so having all the extra time off should help him get more involved in the offense. Of course, he won’t be anything more than the No. 3 option behind Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski.
He gets a very nice schedule against Washington in Week 9, the New York Giants in Week 10 and the Buffalo Bills in Week 11. He should be a WR3 in that span.
Marvin Jones, Cincinnati Bengals (owned in 49 percent of leagues)
The Bengals are really good, so this one doesn’t require much analysis. Jones is coming off a bad game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that defense has really improved in the last month.
Their schedule is very nice and it starts with what should be a Browns defense without Joe Haden. Jones could be in for a big game.
Dorial Green-Beckham, Tennessee Titans (owned in 11 percent of leagues)
The Titans are not going to have Kendall Wright, so there is no excuse to keep DGB in check. He has been very quiet so far and caught just one pass for 12 yards in Week 8. The Titans are also expected to get Marcus Mariota back, so they may want to get their rookie tandem going.
You certainly won’t want to start him right away, but he could wind up getting it going in December.
