With Week 9 approaching, fantasy owners have yet another round of bye teams to negotiate. This week, there are six teams on bye, instead of the usual four. The teams in question are the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy football waiver wire: 4 tight ends to target for Week 9
Here are some potential waiver wire options at the tight end position.
That means Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce and Eric Ebron are among the tight ends who won’t be available this week. With a couple top names getting the week off, here are some potential waiver wire options owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Vernon Davis, Denver Broncos (29 percent)
Davis got traded to the Denver Broncos this week, which should improve his fantasy outlook after going from Colin Kaepernick to Peyton Manning. He could need some time to learn the offense, but Davis should replace Owen Daniels as Denver’s top tight end. Despite being past his prime, he’s in a much better situation and could find himself back on the TE1 map.
Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers (28 percent)
I’ve been banging the table for Miller for several weeks, mostly banking on the return of Ben Roethlisberger. Well, Big Ben is back and throwing to his longtime veteran again. Miller exploded for 10 catches and 105 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals, proving that his recent fantasy duds can be easily pinned on Mike Vick and Landry Jones. With the Roethlisberger-Miller connection intact again, he gets a great matchup against the Oakland Raiders, who struggle to cover tight ends. Start Miller with confidence this week.
Crockett Gillmore, Baltimore Ravens (13 percent)
With Steve Smith done for the year, somebody needs to step up in Baltimore’s passing game, and Gillmore is a prime candidate to see an expanded role after the Week 9 bye. He’s been quiet ever since missing two games with a calf injury, but Gillmore is someone to watch in 12-team leagues.
Jacob Tamme, Atlanta Falcons (six percent)
After a couple years of non-existent tight end production, it seems Matt Ryan finally found one he can trust. Tamme had a breakout game in Week 8, grabbing 10 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. That will probably end up being his best game of the season, but Tamme is involved in the offense and doing enough to warrant TE2 consideration. He’ll have a decent matchup with the San Francisco 49ers this week.
