Fantasy football waiver wire: 4 tight ends to target for Week 17

We wrap up the fantasy football season with one more look at waiver wire options for the tight end position.

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The fantasy football season is just about over. While many players finished up in Week 16, some leagues still play into Week 17 and there are still a lot of DFS games going on.

For Week 17 players, the big trick is to avoid teams resting starters. Fortunately for them, a lot of playoff spots and seedings are still up for grabs, so we don’t expect many teams to take the week off. If you have a solid starter at the tight end position, stick with him for the final round. For those who aren’t so fortunate to have Rob Gronkowski, Greg Olsen or Travis Kelce, here are some waiver wire tight ends owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Zach Miller, Chicago Bears (37 percent)

With Alshon Jeffery out again, Miller had another strong effort for the Bears, hauling in seven catches for 69 yards. At this point, he’s an every-week TE1 with Martellus Bennett on injured reserve. Miller should be in all fantasy lineups against the Detroit Lions next week, regardless of Jeffery’s status.

Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers (33 percent)

Miller hasn’t had a lot to work with this year, with Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and even Markus Wheaton all soaking up targets from Ben Roethlisberger. At 33 years old, Miller is mostly a checkdown option at this point of his career. That said, he still has solid chemistry with Roethlisberger and has some upside against the Cleveland Browns’ crumbling defense as the Steelers try to earn a playoff spot.

Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions (30 percent)

Consistency has not been a strong point in Ebron’s sophomore campaign, but he’s making progress. With the Lions wrapping up another lost season and looking ahead to 2016, Ebron could see a bigger focus in the regular season finale against the Bears. He’ll have TE1 upside for that game, with a floor that’s low but shouldn’t be backbreaking.

Vance McDonald, San Francisco 49ers (six percent)

McDonald doesn’t see many targets, but he’s been one of Blaine Gabbert’s more reliable red zone weapons. McDonald had one of his best games of the year in Week 16, grabbing five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. With three touchdowns in his last five games, McDonald is at least in the TE2 discussion even in a tough matchup against the St. Louis Rams.
