Ryan Anderson out 2-4 weeks with right knee sprain

Anderson left the Pelicans’ game early in the second quarter on Saturday.

Ryan Anderson left the New Orleans Pelicans' game against the Heat on Saturday with a knee sprain and did not return. He will miss 2-4 weeks with an MCL sprain, the Pelicans announced Sunday.

Anderson's ankle was stepped on as he went up for a rebound and he immediately collapsed, grabbing at his right knee. He stayed on the ground for about a minute before being helped to the locker room. The injury happened just minutes after the Pelicans also lost Anthony Davis for the game with a shoulder injury.

Anderson missed most of last season with a serious neck injury, but he’s been mostly healthy this year, playing 51 games. His production has been below his level from the last few seasons, as he’s scoring 14.8 points and shooting just 41 percent from the field, but he’s still a crucial piece for New Orleans.

Anderson was already a game-time decision with a separate injury to his elbow. If Anderson or Davis miss any time, the Pelicans will need to look to Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca to replace some of their minutes in the front court.
