LeBron James is back.* On Thursday, he dropped a season-high 42 points while beating the best team in the league, reminding everyone why he's the best player in the league.
The 5 craziest shots from LeBron James’ 42-point night
He didn’t have many SportsCenter Top 10 moments, but it was still an incredible performance.

What was also back was his ridiculous shot making. He was 15-25 from the field and half of them were the type of highlight shots that we’ve just come to expect from him.
Let’s clarify what type of highlights we’re talking about. There’s two major types in the NBA: the flashy, in-your-face ones that you see as a Vine, then in videos and finally on SportsCenter the next day. These plays -- a dunk, a deadly crossover, an ignored high five -- are worthy of our undivided attention for six seconds. They get appreciated plenty.
But there’s also the quietly impressive plays that make you nod your head and murmur “that was niiice” under your breath. These don’t get Vined, and sometimes, you may never see even see a replay. But really, they deserve at least one!
LeBron’s entire evening was scattered with plays of the second category Friday. He didn’t tear a rim down with a vicious dunk, but just took his time and did things on the court that made you shake your head in admiration of how good he is. Here’s the top five moments.
5. Stepback jumper in the third quarter
How should anyone go about defending this? Harrison Barnes is in good position to channel LeBron right at Andrew Bogut, and suddenly, with a single backwards stride from James, he's out of position.
4. Takes the contact and finishes in the first quarter
Mareese Speights is a 6’10 man who weighs 255 pounds. When LeBron is driving at him, he might as well weight 55.
3. Shooting right over the top of the defense in the second quarter
Andre Iguodala is already contesting this shot and LeBron literally jumps higher than him. This is after he stepped back into this corner, too.
2. Contorting his body for the finish in the fourth quarter
There’s something beautiful about this infinite loop of a basketball gracefully soaring over Iguodala’s outstretched hand.
1. Gets to his spot, pump fake, fadeaway jumper in the third quarter
Each individual thing LeBron did on this play was impressive, never mind that he strung them all together in what was essentially a single motion.
*Please note that despite reports of the contrary, LeBron never actually went anywhere. He just needed a couple months to adjust to his new team.
