More than a handful of college basketball programs have existed for decades without seeing a player record a triple-double. A few more fortunate ones have had a special player who has been able to notch two or three over the course of his career.
BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth sets new NCAA record with 5th triple-double this season
The 6’6 junior guard is now also just one triple-double shy of tying the NCAA career record.

BYU junior guard Kyle Collinsworth has five. This season. That's a new NCAA record.
Collinsworth produced the record-breaking performance during the Cougars’ victory over Loyola Marymount on Saturday by scoring 23 points, pulling down 12 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. The totals put him ahead of Stephane Lasme of UMass (2006-07), Cal’s Jason Kidd (1993-94), Drexel’s Michael Anderson (1985-86) and UC Santa Barbara’s Brian Shaw (1987-88), who each had four triple-doubles in their respective seasons.
Despite having never produced a triple-double heading into this season, Collinsworth now stands just one short of tying the NCAA career record of six. It’s a record currently held by Anderson of Drexel (1985-1988) and Shaquille O’Neal (LSU, 1990-1992).
