With the game all but over, the BYU-friendly crowd in Las Vegas gave Collinsworth a huge round of applause when he hit the free throw that gave him his 10th point.
Collinsworth already broke the record for most triple-doubles in a season -- four -- and now is tied for the career record held by Shaquille O’Neal and Michael Anderson, who played at Drexel in the 1980’s. He’s only a junior, so chances are he’ll break that record in his time at BYU. To put together that many big nights in one season -- and just a year after tearing his ACL -- is absolutely incredible.
Triple-doubles are major achievements, but still somewhat common on the NBA level. But with shorter games and a longer shot clock in college, they almost never occur in the NCAA.
But the 6’6 Collinsworth displays a versatile skillset: he’s the best ballhandler for the Cougars, he’s got the size to grab boards, and yes, he can score. It helps that BYU plays very uptempo
Collinsworth **probably** won’t have the career of Shaq, but he’s with him in the record books.
