Jameis Winston’s pro day didn’t have the same weight as Johnny Manziel’s -- which was attended by a former president, and everyone on down -- but it was still perhaps the most anticipated workout of the pre-draft cycle. Winston is vying to be the first quarterback taken in the 2015 NFL Draft, if not the first overall player. And for the most part, he didn’t hurt his draft status much Tuesday.
Jameis Winston solid, but underwhelming at Florida State pro day
Winston wasn’t perfect Tuesday, but he didn’t take himself out of the conversation to be the first quarterback selected in May, either.
The consensus from attendees seemed to be that Winston throws a pretty ball. Those who watched him at Florida State shouldn’t be too surprised. Winston won a Heisman Trophy and nearly two national championships for good reason. There should be little worry about his arm.
Winston did struggle some with accuracy, however. He still hit the vast majority of his wide receivers during his 102 scripted throws, but occasionally threw behind receivers early in his routine and missed a deep throw down the left side of the field. It didn’t help that receivers were reportedly dropping well-thrown passes.
The final verdict was that Winston was good, if a bit disappointing:

— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) March 31, 2015 Jameis Winston has wrapped. Ended very strong with impressive red zone throws. Overall? Good day. Not his best. I think he still goes No. 1.
— Charles Robinson (@CharlesRobinson) March 31, 2015 This was a FULL workout for Jameis Winston. We will pick it apart, look for negatives (me included), but he takes on challenges. Still #1
— Charles Davis (@CFD22) March 31, 2015 Winston definitely scored brownie points for giving his pass-catchers a hand, however:

— Will Brinson (@WillBrinson) March 31, 2015 One of the more encouraging things about Winston’s workout may have been his conditioning. Though he looked tired in the midst of his lengthy workout, he also saved some of his best throws for near the end. Yahoo’s Charles Robinson gave Winston props for throwing a “perfect” deep post while rolling to his right (throwing on the move has been an issue at times), as well as shining during the red zone portion of what had been one of the longest quarterback workouts he had ever seen.
Pewter Report also noted that Winston looked “slim and fit,” though that may have been a result of his sweet pro day duds:
