Lions hoping Ndamukong Suh ‘comes to his senses’ and re-signs

The defensive tackle can’t sign a new deal until Tuesday.

Despite a report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Ndamukong Suh will sign a six-year, $114 million deal with the Miami Dolphins when free agency begins on March 10, a Detroit Lions team source told Josina Anderson they're not giving up on the defensive tackle just yet.

"[The Miami Dolphins & Ndamukong Suh] can't finalize until Tuesday. We will hope he comes to his senses," Anderson tweeted. "Key is playing for coach [Jim] Caldwell and Teryl [Austin]. Plus good players around him. Can't get that there."

The earliest Suh can sign a deal is 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and even if he agreed in principle with the Dolphins, he could still choose to return to Detroit. Earlier reports said that the Lions offered the All-Pro tackle $17 million per year and $58 million guaranteed. The deal Suh is set to ink with Miami would earn him around $19 million per year with $60 million guaranteed.

Suh has played his entire career with the Lions after they selected him with the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Under first-year defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, the Lions boasted the best run defense in the NFL. The Dolphins, who were just 24th against the run, could use his services. They also have several players, including Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon and Earl Mitchell, who would form a formidable defensive line alongside Suh.
